The Highly-Coveted Top of the Gulf Regatta Race is Taking Place at the Ocean Marina, Pattaya
The Gulf of Thailand, located just off of the coast of South East Asia provides for a stunning location for participants taking part in Top of the Gulf Regatta 2017. From May 4 -8, participants will glide along the crystalline waters as they race past the hundreds of islands that dot the sea. The starting point is at the world-class Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Pattaya, which is considered to be one of the most extravagant marinas in South East Asia. The Ocean Marina Yacht Club sparkles in luxury that will thrill all attendees of the 2017 Top of Gulf Regatta.
This year, the organisers of the event recognise the rising interest from sailors in Australia and across Asia. Therefore, they are developing a system which will allow overseas participants to sail well-designed boats during the race, such as dinghies and multihulls. There are also specific charters available for the sailor’s consideration.
During last year’s event, over 200 boats eagerly participated in the competition. Boats from various classes will be used in this year, from the Cruising class to the three IRC classes to Platu class to Ocean Multihulls class. The single-handed monohull dinghy and double-handed monohull dinghy make up the two classes representing the dinghy group. A well-liked fleet is the IOM Class RC Yachts, which will be returning for the second year in a row. The Optimist class is created for young sailors, giving them a chance to compete in the Thailand Optimist World Championship, a well-known competition purpose-designed for aspiring sailors.
With the Optimist Championships taking place in Thailand shortly after the regatta, organisers are expecting to see an influx in the amount of dinghies entering the race. This is due to the dinghies popularity amongst young sailors participating in the Thailand Optimist Championships, as the majority of them train on this type of boat. Along with growth in the dinghy fleet, organisers are pleased with the number of entries for the race. Teams and crews are coming together in a timely fashion as the May event quickly approaches.
Although the Top of the Gulf Regatta 2017 is quickly coming together, aspiring competitors interested in sailing in the Gulf of Thailand can still enquire about joining the race. The organisers recognise that the event is world-renowned amongst sailors and are working hard to ensure the entirety of race operates smoothly.Thailand is hosting this event for the second year in a row, and sailors will not be disappointed by the exotic backdrop of clear blue skies, fresh tropical air and a plethora of islands dotting the crystal clear waters which sailing in Thailand can offer. The Top of Gulf Regatta of 2017 will undoubtedly achieve high success rates, with its vast number of boats and international interest.
